Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has become a popular approach to hair restoration and growth. This is a non-surgical treatment for hair loss and works for both men and women. At Aesthetic Dose med spa in Boston, MA, we have helped many patients using this treatment. PRP offers a promising solution for those who are experiencing thinning hair or receding hairlines. The main questions we are asked often is, how does PRP work, what’s the timeline for results, and the recommended frequency for treatments, and if there is any downtime? We breakdown everything you need to know right here . What Is PRP? PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It’s a regenerative medicine technique that utilizes your own blood to promote healing and rejuvenation. Here’s how it works: Blood Collection: A small amount of your blood is drawn from your arm. Centrifugation: The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which separates it into different layers: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells. PRP Preparation: The platelet-rich plasma is isolated and processed. Injection: The PRP is injected into the scalp in areas affected by hair loss.

Summer is here, and that means longer days, warmer temperatures, more time outdoors, and more sun. While enjoying the sunshine is wonderful, it’s essential to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful effects. Aesthetic Dose wants to explain how summer and heat impact the skin, common conditions that can arise, and practical tips to keep your skin healthy all season long. Impact of Summer and Heat on the Skin Increased UV Exposure: Longer daylight hours mean more exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV rays can damage skin cells, leading to premature aging, sunburns, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours when outdoors. Heat and Oil Production: Hot weather can cause the skin to produce more oil, leading to clogged pores and acne breakouts. To combat this, use a gentle cleanser to remove excess oil without stripping your skin of essential moisture. Dehydration: Sweating in the heat can lead to dehydration, affecting your skin’s overall health. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using lightweight, water-based moisturizers to maintain skin hydration. Common Summer Skin Conditions Sunburn: Prolonged sun exposure can cause painful sunburns. Apply sunscreen generously and seek shade during peak hours (10 am to 4 pm) to prevent sunburns. Acne Flare-Ups: Increased oil production can worsen acne. Use oil-free, non-comedogenic products and consider exfoliating to keep pores clear. Hyperpigmentation: Sun exposure can cause dark spots and uneven skin tone. Protect your skin with sunscreen and consider using products with antioxidants to prevent pigmentation.
